Distribution
Discontinuous along coast; may exist in small, higher density beds.

Habitat
Sand/mud bottom in areas with strong current; planktonic larvae dispersed by currents; adults attach to rock with byssus and may move by swimming to new location and re-attaching.

Tidal elevation
5 to 200 m subtidal depth.

Slow; maximum growth of 85 mm reached in 4-5 yr; sexually mature at 60 mm, 2-3 yr.
